Who we are
Glimpse is operated by Ashlands AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17185790), with its registered office at Ashlands, High Street, Burwash, East Sussex, TN19 7HS.
We are the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with Glimpse.
For any privacy or data questions, email hello@ashlandsai.com.
What data we collect
When you install the Glimpse Chrome extension, it generates an anonymous identifier (a random string) that lives on your device. This is how our server knows which usage allowance and subscription tier belongs to which install. It is not linked to your name, email, IP address, or anything else that could identify you personally.
When you actively use one of the tools, you send us:
- For Scanner: the text you've pasted or captured. We forward this to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis and return the result to you.
- For Ticker: the stock symbol you typed. We forward this to Finnhub.
- For Company: the search term you typed. We forward it to Companies House (UK), SEC EDGAR (US), Finnhub, and GDELT, depending on the query.
If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe handles your checkout. They collect your name, email, payment details, and billing address as required to process the transaction. Stripe is the data controller for that transaction; we receive a customer ID and a webhook telling us what tier you're on.
We do not collect:
- Your browsing history
- The websites you visit
- Your IP address (Cloudflare logs IPs at the network level for security purposes such as blocking abuse — we don't access these logs for marketing or profiling)
- Your name, email, or any contact details, unless you write to hello@ashlandsai.com or pay for a subscription (in which case Stripe holds the contact details)
If you visit our website at glimpse.ashlandsai.com, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic patterns. You'll see a cookie banner asking your consent before any analytics are loaded. If you refuse, we don't track your visit.
Why we process your data, and on what basis
We process the data above for the following purposes:
- Providing the Glimpse service — fulfilling your queries when you use Scanner, Ticker, or Company. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (we need to do this to give you the service you asked for).
- Enforcing fair use — counting your monthly lookups against your tier's allowance. Lawful basis: performance of a contract and legitimate interests in operating a sustainable service.
- Caching results briefly — we keep query results for 15 minutes so that repeat queries don't burden third-party APIs unnecessarily and we save on costs we'd otherwise have to pass on to you. Lawful basis: legitimate interests in efficient service operation.
- Processing payments (paid users only) — Stripe handles this end-to-end. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- Understanding website traffic (website only, with consent) — Google Analytics. Lawful basis: consent.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling beyond what's strictly necessary to serve your query.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of third-party services to deliver Glimpse. Where data is shared with them, it's only what's needed for the specific function:
- Anthropic, PBC (USA) — receives the text or query content you submit, processes it through their Claude API, returns a result. Under their commercial API terms, they do not retain content for model training.
- Stripe (UK and global entities, depending on your location) — processes payments. They are an independent data controller for the transaction.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) — provides the network tunnel that connects the extension to our server, and hosts our website. They process technical metadata at the network level.
- Companies House (UK government) — UK company lookups. The query you type is sent; no personal identifier is sent.
- SEC EDGAR (US government) — US company lookups. As above.
- Finnhub Ltd (USA) — stock data. As above.
- The GDELT Project (USA) — news data. As above.
- Google LLC (USA) — Google Analytics on our website only, and only if you've consented to cookies.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with anyone.
Where your data goes (international transfers)
Most of our service providers are based in the United States or operate globally. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on:
- The UK's adequacy decision for the EEA (where applicable to Stripe's EU operations)
- The UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework for participating US providers (including Anthropic and Stripe's US entities)
- Standard Contractual Clauses with appropriate safeguards for any provider not covered by the above
For the public-data lookups (Companies House, SEC EDGAR, Finnhub, GDELT, Google Analytics), the data sent is non-personal queries, so the international transfer rules don't really bite — but we mention it for completeness.
How long we keep your data
- Cached query results: 15 minutes, then automatically deleted from cache.
- Anonymous user identifier: kept while your install is active. If you uninstall the extension and never reinstall, the identifier becomes orphaned and is deleted within 30 days of inactivity.
- Usage counts: monthly counters that automatically reset on the 1st of each calendar month. We don't keep historical month-by-month data.
- Subscription / tier records: kept while your subscription is active. If you cancel, we delete the bulk of this within 30 days, except where we're required to retain financial records under UK tax law (currently 6 years for billing-related information — though Stripe holds the substantive transaction data on their end).
- Stripe-held data: governed by Stripe's privacy policy and retention rules.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything that's inaccurate
- Delete your data (the "right to be forgotten")
- Restrict or object to our processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time (where consent is the lawful basis)
Given how little personal data we actually hold — an anonymous ID, a tier, a monthly usage count — these requests are usually quick to handle. Email hello@ashlandsai.com with what you'd like and we'll respond within one calendar month, normally much faster.
You can also withdraw cookie consent on the website at any time by clearing your browser cookies or via the cookie banner if it's still visible.
Cookies
The Glimpse extension itself does not set cookies.
Our website at glimpse.ashlandsai.com uses:
- Strictly necessary cookies for basic functionality (none currently — this may change if we add features that need them).
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) only if you consent via the cookie banner.
We don't use advertising cookies, marketing trackers, or third-party retargeting.
Stripe checkout
When you click "Upgrade" in the extension and proceed to payment, you're taken to Stripe's hosted checkout page. Stripe sets cookies on that page that are strictly necessary to process your transaction safely (fraud detection, session management). These are governed by Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
Children
Glimpse is not intended for users under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you're a parent or guardian and believe we've inadvertently done so, email hello@ashlandsai.com and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy as Glimpse changes. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you when. Significant changes will be flagged in-extension and on the website. By continuing to use Glimpse after a change, you accept the updated policy.
Complaints
If you're not happy with how we handle your data, please contact us first at hello@ashlandsai.com — we'll do our best to put it right. But if you'd rather go straight to the regulator, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection authority:
